Dinner was once meat and three veg. these days, pasta, rice and vegetarian based meals are just as commonly consumed. If cooked without a lot of f, these dishes can make good sense because they are high in nutrients and energy giving carb. The important elements of every evening meal are that it should contain vegetables in abundance, either incorporated into a dish or served as a salad or cooked vegetables; fish, chicken, lean, red meat, egg, legumes, seeds, nuts, or a grain based food such as pasta or rice; olive oil, if a cooking fat is required; finished by fruit or low fat dessert.
It also makes good sense to add bread to the evening meal. Bread is filling, high in carbohydrate, low in fat and is excellent foe mopping up juices from vegetables and other ingredients.
It is best to eat the evening meal several hours before going to bed, if possible. This allows time for some of the food to be digested and contribute its energy.
